Thousands of people in Livingston and the surrounding areas turned up in their droves this evening, Thursday, 1st November, to watch children’s favourites The Tweenies, switch on this year’s Christmas lights, at Almondvale Shopping Centre, Livingston.

The hugely successful switch on was followed by a spectacular fireworks display which had crowds completely enthralled and finished to rapturous applause.

The popular CBBC stars, The Tweenies, kicked off the festive celebrations by treating children to a number of special meet ‘n’ greet sessions throughout the day. The little ones were delighted when they seen Milo, Jake, Fizz and Bella of The Tweenies for real.

The fun continued at 4.15pm when Forth 1 radio DJ Iain Waugh dazzled shoppers with plenty of fun, music and games along with great prizes, including a family ticket to see popular children’s show The Snowman at Edinburgh Festival Theatre.  Iain was joined on stage by a number of personalities including star guests The Tweenies, players from Livingston FC, and current Miss West Lothian, Alison Clinton.

Shoppers also enjoyed a cracker of a show from West Lothian Youth Theatre performing extracts from their latest production of The Wizard of Oz.  Top children’s entertainers, including face painters, balloon modellers, stilt walkers, an award winning magician and a furry giant robotic parrot also added extra sparkle to the evening. Santa also landed in the centre on the night to take part in the festive party adding to the great atmosphere in the shopping centre.
