Almondvale Shopping Centre goes Football Crazy
Date of Event: 15/10/2007 - 21/10/2007
Almondvale Shopping Centre went football crazy during the October school holidays when it hosted a week-long range of football themed activities and events to help raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
From Monday 15th through to Sunday 21st October, youngsters aged between 8 and 14 years had the chance to receive top class football coaching from some of the best players and coaches in Scotland. Livingston FC and Hearts FC have teamed up with the centre and gave children a rare opportunity to learn first-class football skills.
The Scottish Football Museum has also provided memorabilia which was showcased in the centre throughout the week. This will include strips, trophies and images from Scotland’s matches in the 1982, 1986 and 1990 World Cups as well as strips from the first ever Scottish International Football match in 1872.
Jennifer Bruce, marketing manager at Almondvale Shopping Centre said: “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to organise such a quality football event at the centre, which couldn’t have been done without the tremendous help received from Livingston and Hearts Football Clubs and the Scottish Football Museum.”
Other highlights at the week-long, free event include world keepie-uppie champion Graeme Lightbody showing off his fancy footwork and taking part in the Livingston Keepie-Uppie Challenge; special guest Livi the Lion as well as various competitions with prizes including a £250 shopping spree for aspiring WAG’s.
Leigh Robertson, community co-ordinator at Livingston Football Club added: “The community department at the club is delighted to be involved in this event which will give children a great opportunity to learn some great footballing skills ‘the Livi way’.”
This event is the sixth in a series of activities at Almondvale Shopping Centre throughout the year. Each event is designed to raise much needed funds for Marie Curie Cancer.
Almondvale’s Football Fantastic event kicked off on Monday 15th and finished up with a Football Funday on Sunday 21st October.
