The Centre, Livingston invited applications from all West Lothian based charities to become its Charity Partner of the Year  for 2011/12.

Bosom Buds received the most amount of votes and will remain as our Charity Partner for a further year.

Thank you to all charities who submitted application forms - we will be seeking a new partner for 2012/13 in March 2012.

Bosom Buds of Scotland, a new Scottish charity was registered in November 2009 and is run by Mags and Kate Fenwick and a committee of friends based around West Lothian. Kate (24) was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009 and regularly attended St John’s Oncology Unit in Livingston for her treatment.

Bosom Buds for Scotland was created in order to help people going through a similar experience and raise as much money as possible to make their time at St John’s Hospital more comfortable. Bosom Buds will also look at helping people throughout West Lothian in lots of other ways as it grows in size and support.

The charity was selected by the majority of The Centre’s 155 retailers and a panel of judges from The Centre management team. The Centre will be supporting the charity via fundraising days in the malls and specific fundraising events throughout the year.

Jennifer Bruce, Marketing Manager at The Centre said: “I am thrilled The Centre will be lending its support to Bosom Buds for Scotland for a second year. The charity focuses on helping people dealing with cancer within West Lothian, so their efforts will make a huge difference to our shoppers.

“Mags and Kate are very passionate about their charity, knowing first hand the type of support and assistance that’s required when dealing with the disease. I hope our retailers and shoppers will support Bosom Buds as generously as they have done previously.

We look forward to working with Bosom Buds for Scotland progressing into 2011/12.”

The Centre, Livingston has always been involved in charity fundraising. Four years ago, the initiative was developed to enable The Centre to focus on a more formal arrangement with one particular charity. Over the past four years The Centre has raised over £33,000 for its nominated charities which have included Marie Curie Cancer Care and Children’s Hospice Association (CHAS).

Mags Fenwick, chairperson of Bosom Buds for Scotland added: “I am delighted The Centre, Livingston has picked Bosom Buds as its Charity of the Year. Being a new charity we applied without too much expectation, however, we were over the moon to hear we had been appointed.

“When Kate was diagnosed it really changed our lives and opened our eyes to what could be done to help others going through this experience. We have had an immense amount of support since we launched as a charity and look forward very much to partnering with The Centre to raise as much funds as possible throughout the year.

“Bosom Buds is very excited with the new partnership and hope it will boost our funds, raise awareness of detecting the disease and help to improve the services and facilities available to those with cancer in West Lothian.”
